早上6点钟
敖德萨建设委员会的办公室灯火通明。
规划员阿列克谢·米哈伊洛维奇·科罗廖夫通宵不眠，准备着汇报材料，
“这已是修改的第12稿啦”，他喃喃念叨，“希望这次能通过”，
同时甩了甩麻木的手腕。

早上8点半
规划处处长德米特里·亚历山德罗维奇·波波夫快步跑进办公室，
“阿列克谢·米哈伊洛维奇”，他喊道，“汇报材料是否准备完毕”，
“这次再过不了可就糟糕啦”。

早上9点半
建设委员会委员康斯坦丁·叶夫根尼耶维奇·诺维科夫稳健迈步走进办公室，

规划处处长德米特里·亚历山德罗维奇迈出办公室，同时不忘叮嘱到
“阿列克谢·米哈伊洛维奇请辛苦一下，抓紧按书记意见修改材料”
“争取下周报到州人民委员会”
阿列克谢·米哈伊洛维奇不语，
只是抓紧就着茶水咽了一口面包，
佝偻着身子继续伏在办公桌前。

One day there our story was told.
6 AM!
Odessa's dawn still slept,
But darkness was pierced
By the lights from the Construction Committee, bright as day.
In the office,
Throught the night,
Alexei Mikhailovich Korolev had worked,
Wrists numb, eyes bloodshot, 
"Draft twelve!"
He muttered,
"This time—
He must give us the go-ahead!"
8:30 AM!
Dmitry Alexandrovich Popov,
Head of the Planning Department,
Hurried into the office,
"Alexei Mikhailovich!" he called,
"Are the materials ready?"
"If this time it doesn't pass—
Trouble will surely fall on us!”
9:30 AM!
Konstantin Yevgenyevich Novikov,
Committee member,
Strided into the office with steady steps,
“Dmitry—” he thought to himself,
“Can he handle this?”
“If not—
We'll find someone else!”
10:30 AM!
The meeting room was full—
The Construction Committee, Economic Planning Committee,
And Ideological Oversight Committee.
The Material Allocation Committee, Science and Industry Innovation Committee,
And Cultural Guidance Committee—
Comrades, all present, as they should.
White teacups stood in rows,
Like soldiers on parade.
The documents, fifty pages thick,
sorted and stacked with care.
11 AM!
Sergei Vasilyevich Lebedev,
Chairman and First Secretary of the Construction Committee,
Steped onto the podium,
His mood bright—
For he had just heard good news—
He'd promoted next week.
"Comrades, you're early!" he greeted the room,
"Let's keep this meeting brief,
Alexei Mikhailovich,
Present the plan in detaill—
in ten minutes time—
not one minute more!”
12 PM!
The meeting ended.
The Chairman's directive is clear:
“Approved in principle,—
To the Regional Council for futher review you will submit”
Alexei Mikhailovich wiped his sweat,
Gathered his papers with haste, flustered he was.
Konstantin Yevgenyevich and Dmitry Alexandrovich,
Their legs were quick,
Already flanked Sergei Vasilyevich as he left.
"Brilliant, how brilliant!"
Praising him all the way.
5 PM!
Dmitry Alexandrovich ended his day, 
Calling back as he left,
“Alexei Mikhailovich, Work on the revisions with double haste.
Be sure to submit it to the Regional Council, before next week!”
From Alexei Mikhailovich nothing says,
With cold tea, he swallowed some bread,
Hunching over the desk, working on—
like yesterday.
Another day—
At the Odessa Construction Committee—
Progress was made!
Sergei Vasilyevich gained praise,
Konstantin Yevgenyevich claimed achievements,
Dmitry Alexandrovich kept his job,
And poor Alexei Mikhailovich—
He gained carpal tunnel and a stiff neck.
