导语：终于把《爱，死亡和机器人》18集看完，第7集“裂缝之外”（Beyond the Aquila Rift）中出现这首Living in the Shadows的时候，我——被当时的剧情吸引——根本没有注意到人声音乐的出现。但了解歌词之后再去回顾，发现所选择的唱段和它在剧中出现的时机是如此之妙。

Living in the Shadows这首歌在第7集“裂缝之外”中首次出现是在背景音乐里：
I've been running out, now it's all just a fight... to breathe 我已精疲力尽，如今挣扎只为……喘息
虽然只是出现在背景中，但也很能反映当时船长疲惫的心境
正式出现的唱段是：
I will never break the silence. 我将永不打破静寂 When I look inside. I don't have to hide 窥入其中，无须隐藏自己 If you're looking, you won't find me 你若探寻，难觅我踪迹 Who's the enemy? Don't know what to believe 谁是敌人？什么值得相信？
那个不愿打破静寂的人是谁？而那个已经分不清敌我，不知该相信什么的人又是谁？相信第二遍看的朋友立刻就能明白。
第三次出现是在影片接近结束，剧中将原曲的第一段第一节和第二段第二节拼凑在了一起：
Smoke is clearing out, all the circling lights... blind me 硝烟已散尽，飞旋灯火令我……目眩 I know the truth but for you it's just out of reach 我所知悉的真相，对你而言遥不可及
谁是那个目盲之人？谁又是那个知晓真相却无法倾诉的人？
制作团队对歌词的巧妙运用，着实为这集故事增色。
我个人最喜欢的一句是：Light is breaking through a dark that is underneath。这句描绘的场景对我的震撼很难翻译出来，我拙劣地译为“天光方乍破，黑暗潜藏蛰伏”，而剧中一个场景未说一字，却将这句歌词的意境展现得淋漓尽致：
内容因剧透、敏感不适等原因被隐藏
点击查看在这片光明与暗影交织的地方，有那知晓真相者，还有那无法触及它的人。

翻译这首歌是从触动我的这句“I will never break the silence, when I look inside. I don't have to hide”开始的，然而这句也是本歌中逻辑最奇怪的一句，根据我的理解，应该是说抛弃一切的“我”，已经与黑暗与静寂融为一体，无需再刻意地藏匿自己。但译着译着强迫症发作，又把它译成了一首勉强能用中文唱的曲子，希望在风格上不要太偏离原曲。

这位看一眼照片就能把我这个直男掰弯的歌手兼词曲作者名叫Matthew Perryman Jones，听说因为名字太长而被粉丝缩成了MPJ。现年45岁的他，居住在田纳西州纳什维尔，签约厂牌是纳什维尔的Ten Out of Tenn。
